Walks, Wine, and Pigs. What do they have in common? Well, the Left Coast Parrotheads will be involved in all three this month for different occasions.  First, we will started out the month with the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk on Saturday, October 3rd at 9:00am.  The club is $500 sponsor so you could walk for free or you can make an additional donation.

On October 10th, Dave and Kathleen are hosting our Annual Wine Tasting and Auction.  They are planning a bigger and better event than ever this year complete with some of the worlds favorite wines, a taco bar and appetizers provided by a local “Chef in Training”.

Just bring two bottles of wine (one for tasting and one for the auction) and $10 each for the cause and get ready for another great event.  Of course, SoCal will once again be our auctioneer and he is out to set another record in proceeds this year. Bring your taste buds and your wallet and get ready for some auction action at our clubs premier event.  Look for a flyer in your email for specifics.

We will end the month with a Halloween weekend camping trip and pig roast at the Green’s vacation resort near Bakersfield.  Their house sits off a man made lake in the desert community of Avenal.  Bring your RV, trailer or tent and spend the weekend.  It should be a lot of fun just hanging around campfire at night and indulging in a little sun and water activities (weather permitting).

Friday night and Saturday morning George Mayo and his gang of cooks will be working diligently roasting a whole pig in preparation for our first pig roast and party on Saturday afternoon.

We are planning plenty of pulled pork, live music and party at the end of the world (well, the end of the Gape Vine anyway).  So, come for the day or come for the weekend and celebrate with us.

This will be the unofficial start of our 15th Anniversary Year celebration so come and join in.  Also, with Saturday being Halloween, if you are camping, bring some Halloween decorations to liven up your rig and the campsite.  Lights, pumpkins, and some good scary stuff to hang in and around the campsite will add to the ambiance! The cost for the pig roast should be around $20-$25 per person.  Camping is Free, thanks to Steve and Lori Green.

We are in the planning stages for a bowling tournament and 15 year celebration at the Wagon Wheel Bowling Alley. We are also working on our annual Holiday Party and adoptions for December.

More details will be available at the meeting prior to the start of the Wine Tasting and Auction. e have a great month planned as we wind down 2009, another great year to be a Left Coast Parrothead.

Buffett Joins Effort to Restore Miami Marine Stadium

    Business News No Comments »

The Miami Herald has an article: “Jimmy Buffett joins effort to restore Miami Marine Stadium”

Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett has publicly endorsed preservationists’ efforts to restore and reopen the city-owned Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key, the site of many a Parrothead’s fondest — if also foggy — memories.

In a newly released public-service spot, intercut with video from a 1985 Marine Stadium show that Buffett calls one of his Coral Reefer Band’s best, the singer urges fans to support restoration of the graffiti-covered architectural landmark, closed since 1992.
